St. Alphonsus School Reviews

This is an excellent school if you wish your child to receive a religious education. It is welcoming to all denominations. Receiving the award for 'No child left behind' is an indication of its academic excellence. When your child leaves 6th grade, he/she will not only be prepared for but ahead of most 7th Grade curricula on the Coast. The staff are most caring, the library is by far the best on the Coast, it has an excellent Computer Lab and it could not have a more welcoming environment. My son went here, both my daughters will also. I have no hesitation in recommending this school.

All-in-all it is like any other school. However, if you are not part of the 'click', don't expect more than an average experience. Teachers are good&bad but the staff and the school as a whole have many inconsistencies in discipline (depending on the child involved and teacher's mood) and in communication. Some teachers have been great, but my child's teacher changes the 'routine' every other week and takes points away for the children's conduct averages if they don't consistently follow class processes. Wonderful life lesson for my child(do as I say, not as I do). Some of these children have been through a lot (Hurricane Katrina). When it comes to getting free meals (and more money for the school) they seem to care a lot. When it comes to emotional implications, not so much. If you get one of the good teachers, you'll be wonderful. If not, have fun. :-/

Both my children have attended St. Alphonsus over the past three years. The environment is small and close nit. The reading program is fair and needs to be revised it has taken the love of reading away from my 9 1/2 year old. Over all the edcuation is good for the area. The school needs a little bit of T.L.C. and up keep. The playground is a mess, along with the track area. We have had great teachers and one not so great, but you get that everywhere. I love the small class size and parent envolement! There is no better place to edcuate your children on the Coast for a Catholic education. If your looking for private school in this area don't pass this one up.

St. Alphonsus provides an outstanding academic and moral/ethical training for my 2 children. They came to St. Al's from a public school and have truly blossomed under the leadership of the school's teachers and principals. My only regret is that we will be moving out of the area and need to find a school that fits the St. Al's model. I recommend this school very highly!

This is the best school on the coast by far. It provides academic excellence as well as a loving enviroment. The religious aspect of the school is demonstrated daily. Parents are very involved, it is a welcoming community. I would not send my children anywhere else.

The academic program and extra activities are great but the principal and some teachers are not. I would not recommend this school if you are an 'outsider', you and your children will not feel welcome. If your born and raised in Ocean Springs MS, this would be a great school for you. If you have any issues with bullies or teachers or any school concerns they will fall on deft ears.

My daughter goes to kindergarden at St. Als and loves it. The school was awared the blue ribbin for excellence this past year as part of the No Child Left Behind law. St. Alphonsas was the only private school in the state of Mississippi to receive this award. I am very pleased with the progress my daughter has made this past year. My wife and I will be sending our son to Pre-k 4 this next school year at St. Als and are sure he will love it as much as our daughter does.

We recently moved away from St. Al's, but are thrilled we are able to sne dour daughter there again soon. This is a school where the children come first. The parents are very invovled and the teachers are highly skilled and work hard to bring out the best in each child. Everyone is kind and knows each child by name. According to our daughter, 'there is NO school better than St. Alphonsus'!
