Bernice J Causey Middle School Reviews

I recently left Causey (going into 9th grade) and overall it was a great school. All of my teachers where excelent (except two out of my three math teachers didn't teach my anything). The fights were slightly over average, but the teachers tried reallt hard to stop this (I have seen Mr. Burks along with other teachers get hit in the face trying to break kids up) but it is hard to control unruly kids, especially at 12 or 13 years old. I do have to agree the uniform policy was way to strict. I completely understant the no saggy pants or shirt skirts (not one inch to short but no one wants to see young girls walking around with three inches of fabric around there waste) and no one wants to see guys boxers or butts either!

The band program at Causey is the best in the state. Mr. Bean is the greatest. Other than that it is just your average middle school with all the problems that go along with dealing with teenagers. The faculty and administration seem a little to focused on the small stuff like counting the buttons on the shirts, when there are bigger problems to worry about.

I have a daughter at causey its the only school in my district and causey is kinda nice but every teacher has that 'i dont care i get paid anyway' type of attitude.

I just graduated from Causey. It really isn't a horrible school. The 6th and 8th grade PACE teachers (Mrs.Johnson and Mrs.Barry) are the best teachers you could ever have! There are some problems at the school, but there are problems at every school. One thing I must say, though is they care way too much about uniforms. I find it a bit ridiculous when students can get detention on a first offense for not having an ID badge on.

This is the best school I've ever been to. I came here 6th grade as a new student, and I've never been happier. Everything is very organized; the teachers couldn't be better; and the people here are great.

This is the best school I've ever been to. I came here 7th grade as a new student, and I've never been happier. Everything is very organized; the teachers couldn't be better; and the people here are great. They could slack up on the uniform policy a bit, though...

not challenging enough for a high achieving child.no opportunities given to be placed in advances classes.Uniforms stolen out of gym locker, never to be found again..... fights were a common occurrence. I would pass on this school.

I attended Causey Middle School for three years and I urge parents to rethink their decision of sending their child here. The teachers have the I don t care if you understand or not, I get paid either way attitude. They also spend more time picking at your uniform then they do at the board actually teaching you. If you would like to spend over approximately $200 every time the uniform code flips and flops than Causey Middle School is the school for you.

I was a student at Causey Middle School for a total of 2 years. I found it to be the worst experience in my life. Everyone picked at everyone else. Overall I did not feel safe there. Personally I think that no parent should send their child here because of lack of good administration. Send them to Grand Bay middle. It's a far better school. The teachers actually care about the students.

I am an 8th grade student at Causey. I just moved here this summer and have noticed many things about this school. Safety: this is a major issue because many children find it fun to tease others because of race, social status, or just for any reason. Teachers do the best they can but it doesn't keep kids for getting hurt mentally/emotionally, or physically. Education: very good but unless you want to learn, you will most likely fail. The most important thing is to pay attention and take notes. Try to stay on the teachers good side and take notice on mood changes from teachers and students. Do your best and stay out of trouble are the best ways to get through Causey because if your attitude is bad, your grades won't be very good.

I agree to the last review here.. I'm also a student at Causey Middle, and I just moved here a month ago. The school is a major change from my last one, like the way its ran. I don't know why, it just seems like the Administration has no idea what they're doing sometimes, and they do have too strict of a dress code, what are they for, its not like people are going to discriminate you for how baggy your pants are, or where your I.D. badge is. All these meaningless rules, I don't get. And they keep saying they have a 'dedicated staff', yet most of the teachers I have talk on to their cell-phones sometimes, but they are nice. In the past month I have been here, its overall good, but not as good as my last. And there isn't a lot of violence there, and pretty safe.

I disagree with the other review about violence. I'm an 8th grade student at Causey Middle School, and I absolutley think it is a safe school. Every now and then there are little quarrels but for the most part this school is extremely safe. The only thing I do not like about it is the very strict dress code. They shouldn't worry too much about the length of a skirt or if the pants sag. They should be more concerned on grades.

This school is the best middle school in Mobile County. They have a lot of electives such as Art, band, computer and reading. The teachers are really interested in the students. The administrators follow the rules and respond to parents quickly.

I agree with one of the other parent's comment's also but Mr. Burks does what he can to be fair but he is only one man.The teachers so far have been ok but no matter where you go you will have the I am just here for a paycheck teachers. Yes they do cover up alot of things at this school. I hate that my kids HAVE to go there.kids also spend at least a hour to and from school on the bus everyday on what should be no more then a 20 minute ride if that.

My child is a transfer student at Causey because I thought it would be such a better environment than that of the school in our district; but since her enrollment, we have had numerous situations pertaining to her safety concerning bullying and racism. I agree with the other parents that posted complaints; not much was done to even chastise the children who constantly tormented our daughter. Some of the teachers seem to be ok as far as academics but there are some that actually show and verbalize that they just don't care.

I agree with the other parent who expressed concerns about the violence at this school. It seems to me it is a direct result of poor administration. There are some great teachers here, but the administration refuses to do anything about the harrasment, hazing, brutality and bullying that are the students' constant companions. Great kids (for the most part), good parents, wondeful teachers, and hopelessly incompetent administration.

Causey is an excellent school with very high quality teachers, especially Mr. Griffin, my child's language arts teacher. He would be an asset to any faculty!

I agree with one of the other parent's comment's: the safty of this school is not good and the P.E coach's are not nice to every one, just their hand pick'ed. There are a few good teacher's. Even if you make a complaint about a teacher or coach they do nothing! They should except every parents concern's, and stop taking the teachers side when they repeatly get complaints on the same one's.Things have not got any better since they moved to the new school. They need to stop worrying if a girls skirt is 1 inch to short or if prongs or in there pants and focus on there education. I have one more child still to enter a middle school, and I hope that it will not be here.

I think that Causey is a great school. I have two children there and have not had the first bit of trouble. The teachers are always helpful and the coaches were great this year. I think that the staff was pretty amazing spending their Christmas break getting the new school ready for our kids to start after the holidays.

The teachers in this school overall are good but the principals and coach should not be here. They do not care about the children whatsoever. The fighting & violence in the school are not recorded so that this school looks safe. But looks are deceiving. They don't take responsibility for the violence; in fact, they refuse to accept there is a problem. We have been told 'not to make such a big deal out of it'. Our child's safety isS a big deal. Our child is there to learn, not fight and be on the defense all the time. Our child will not return to this school. We are required by law to have our children in school - so why are the schools not required to keep them safe?
