Ocean Springs Middle School Reviews

I have been at OSMS since 6th grade, I am now in 8th grade.Overall the school is pretty good, but there are racial boundries even some of te teachers carry out. There is also lot of bullying towards kids who are slower than most. The teachers are good, yet they most care about how we do on state tests. Admistration usually dosent care about bullying unless it is extremely overbaring.

Ocean Springs Middle School is a awesome school, however something needs to be done about the ongoing bullying. A Parent.

My child has been attending the OS school system since 1st grade. Although I loved the elementary school, I am having issues with the Middle School. He has always been a very good student, but now he struggles for even B's. Now that he is in 8th grade, I worry about his study skills when he enters High School. I am also not at all impressed with the scheduling of classes. I admit that because of work, I cannot volunteer much time at the school, but at home I am very involved with my son's education. I just don't feel the Middle School is providing my son with the quality of education I expect.

No school is perfect, but this is a school that offers a quality education and is a very safe environment. I really like that the school has three wings that primarily support one grade per wing. This helps to keep students in their own peer group and adjust to moving to different classrooms without the fear of bullying. Another big plus is the parents. The parents are involved and don t depend on the school to instill values that mat be vacant at home. It makes it much easier for teachers to teach.

I've been to this school since last year. I love it here. My cousins have all gone to this school and so will my siblings.

I'm in 8th grade right now i'm taking algebra I and Accelerated English and french are my most difficult classes. I love the middle school. i've been in O.S. Schools since i was in Kindergarden. I've been in the gifted Ed. since 2nd grade. All of the kids are nice we have got great teachers, great sprots programs.

Wonderful parent involvement. There are about 60 students on a waiting list for gifted and talented services that the school is not providing for. You move to an area for the best schools, but do to overcrowding your child does not get the services they might in a another school. They do take their state testing extremely serious. They are strict on attendance because it affects their funding. There are great teachers that really do love what they do and the students do learn.

GREAT SCHOOL. We moved here this year from the St.Louis area and our son ,who hated school before,is now actually enjoying it. The teachers are very good and easy to talk with and the positive vibe just oozes out of the building. Great school I would encourage anyone to try to live in this district if you are looking to move into this area

Very Good School! Really helps my kids in all subjects. Great community support! No Problems so far!

I have been to OSMS for all three years. I have noticed that the school is so worried about state tests scores that we only learn what is going to be on the test. I believe this much concern is harmful because we learn almost the same thing each year. Most of my teachers were really good taking time with each student to help them, giving extra credit, and tutoring. Some of my teachers; however, clearly didn't like kids, teaching, or have the patiences to do so. They were rude and unhelpful except I learned how I don't want to be. Most of the administration seemed to want to do the least amount of work as possible. I have only done a few but I heard from others friends that the extra activies are great.

I am now an 8th grade student at the Ocean Springs Middle School. I have been through the ocean springs school district since kindergarten. The middle school is a great school. Everything is wonderful but the students. The students bully, i have gone through that once this year for the first time, the students are also very disrespectful and they dont care about their education. The extra activities are really good. There is alot to choose from. There is softball, football, tennis, soccer, cheerleading, dance team, and alot more to choose from.

I'm in 7th grade and i have been going to OSMS since 6th grade but i have been in the school dis. since i was in 4th grade. If i had to rate OSMS between 0 and 100 i would rate it 98.9. the reason I don't give it a 100 is because i think the food could be better, I think we could have nicer books, in my world history class we are using text books from 1993!

I graduated from the Ocean Springs School District in 1990, and I vowed my kids would also. Being a military wife, we have traveled and attended a wide range of schools from year round schools, to traditional schools and NONE of them compare to the education that my kids receive from Ocean Springs. I am so happy to be back here and getting my kids the EXCELLENT education they deserve from caring teachers. The Ocean Springs School district listens to parents and are willing to do whatever they need to help. My daughters elementary teacher volunteered her 'personal' time to stay after school and assist my daughter in getting back on her reading level. This teacher did not have to do this, she did it because she cared and as a parent I appreciate that.

I am a student of OSMS and I think it is a great school and that the counselors do care whether it is academic or life situations you need help with! And the teachers are awesome! especially the algebra teacher!

i was a student of oceansprings middle schooland i have found that the teachers dont care how your grades are.the counclers dont care about many students problems ]. all they care abou tis test scores!and we cant make good test scores if we dont pass our classes.

Particulary,I think OSMS is an awesome school, as I am a student there. The teachers are great and very respectful towards you, I have one teacher that is always there for me til the very end, she deeply cares about me when I am having trouble. The education aspect here is wonderful also, we go on many educational field trips to give us a better understanding. There are many things about this school that are great. No matter what, this school is the best!

I am a former student of OSMS and I believe it was a wonderful school! Sure some teachers were indifferent to student's problems, but most actually cared, and I have a one teacher in particular that I consider a very good friend. She was the best teacher I ever had, and my friends and I would go to her for any problems. I had a great time in the excellent band program, and all the wonderful clubs. My big sister went to this school and ended up graduating high school in the top ten percent of the country! The principals were considerate of all problems, and knew you by name. I had a great education at OSMS and I only hope OSHS can keep up!

Superior school to send your child to in order to succeed! Teachers are caring, responsible, and very good with the kids. It costs a little more to live in the district but it is worth every penny to get an education like this. My daughter went on some very educational field trips and was pleased with all of her teachers, classes available and the students were very welcoming.

For as many parents to be complaining about the Middle school, I wonder just how many of them have volunteered their time or abilities to help correct or resolve the issues. A phone call to the teacher or a note to the guidance office is not a true effort. The teachers are dealing with more than the academics of the students and they are often the only line of defense for the child's future. Too often a teacher will attempt to contact a parent to meet indifference from the parent or they are just too busy to be involved. I find the teachers at this school to be more than pro-active and extremely commited/helpful professionals.

Reading the reviews makes me believe administrators are writing some of them. I don't care how many awards they claim they have received, I have been involved in good schools and Ocean Springs is not one of them. The administration was not receptive to parent involvement and was not interested in my childs education. When my child was having trouble with a subject I was told to allow my child to fail-as the first option. Pushing for solutions, my child was placed w/a counselor/liasion between teachers and myself. She never knew who my child was when I called and it took me days to find she was doing nothing. Attempts to reconcile problems w/Principal were impossible as he would not show for meetings. This attitude trickled down to many of the teachers. There were some very good teachers, but they were far and few between and most didn't stay within the district.

I think Ocean Springs Middle School is a wonderful place and the teachers , staff and administrators care about children.

Ocean Springs Middle School is one of the most outstanding schools in the South. The parents and teacher's care about children and the Administration has always been supportive.

I think the Administration of the Middle School is outstanding. They have always been supportive and pro-active. The teacher's are wonderful and ability grouping is not the driving force, rather they care for the whole child and follow middle school practices. There are four ways for parents to keep in contact with teacher's if they choose to be pro-active. OSMS has recieved four National Honors in the past 5 years. Three state curriculum awards. Teacher's have common planning time for conferences. There is no gang activity, weapons are not an issue, and a school satety and crisis plan is in place. OSMS and the Ocean Springs School System is constantly ranked in the top 100 in the nation and top one or two in the state. Test scores are above the state and regional averages. Be careful what you read and take a look for yourself.

Ocean Springs Middle School is a wonderful place to educate your children. The administration is up to date with the latest curriculum efforts and the teacher's work very hard to reach every child. I have had two children go through the school and would not trade that experience for any other school that I am aware of. Parents can be as involved as they wish and there is always a open door policy with the counselor's, principal's, and teacher's.

I find the administration to be uninterested in the students/parents. Conferences with teachers did not produce the needed results. The Gifted program is a laugh. The classrooms are packed with students and the halls are a madhouse. The classes need to be divided based on ability/gender and less money spent on 'extracurricular activities' such as sports/cheerleading. Divide the classes into 3 sections: above, below, and average. Test students in all core subjects then place in the appropriate class. Teach classes at the student's level with the intent of moving below average students into the average group at the next testing cycle. The student could then learn at a pace suited to their level thus eliminate many discipline problems with bored students. Require physical fitness/health classes for all students/grades. Most of all teach students how to learn!! (A magnet program for exceptional students is a good idea also.)

I found OS schools to be lacking in many ways. The administration of the middle school was uninterested in helping solve communication problems between parents and teachers. Teachers were repeatedly allowed to ignore requests for conferences and administrators were not interested in fair or equitable treatment of parents and students.
