The Faculty of Extension and Forestry and its staff serve the people of Mississippi and are part of MSU's Forestry Division. As a research institution, graduate training is a central part of Mississippi State University's mission, and the four-year professional study program that leads to a PhD in veterinary medicine (DVM) offers more than 1,500 undergraduate and graduate programs in veterinary medicine. The school is home to the Ohio State Veterinary Center, which treats more than 30,000 patients annually, but there is also a veterinary school at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a Louisiana couple who support the veterinary training of MS U. MSU is located on the Mississippi in Jackson, Mississippi, about 30 miles south of New Orleans and has 21,622 students from 50 U.S. states and Canada, as well as from Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Japan, the Netherlands, Russia, China, India, Brazil, Turkey, Israel, Egypt, Greece, Argentina, Mexico, Peru, Chile, Uruguay, Venezuela, Bolivia, Ecuador, Honduras, Paraguay, Guatemala, Panama, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico, Cuba, Haiti, the Dominican Republic and Venezuela.

The University of Mississippi offers all students academic degrees, with an accounting school consistently ranked in the top 10 in the national rankings, and a bachelor's degree in business administration. The largest college at MSU is the College of Arts and Sciences, which houses more than 1,500 students and graduates; there is a graduate school for higher education and a professional training program; and there are four elementary schools and four graduate schools.

Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine (MSU - VVM), fully accredited by the AVMA since 1981, has been offering a 4-year program leading to a DVM since 2007, and provides high quality education to Nebraska residents seeking a PhD in veterinary medicine through an accredited program.

Currently, Arkansas residents receive a state tuition fee for a 4-year degree in agricultural economics, agricultural sciences, animal sciences, and economics from Mississippi State University College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (MSU - AANR) at the University of Arkansas in Little Rock. The training is continued by a four-year course in agriculture and animal sciences, which focuses on agroecology, animals, natural sciences and agricultural economics.

The shelter is open Monday to Friday from 9 am to 5 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 4 pm. Weekly service programs are also available at the shelter and in other local churches and community organizations.
