GAUTIER, Miss. (AP) - A standoff between the armed driver of an 18-wheeler and police officers has brought traffic to a stop on Interstate 10 in southern Mississippi.

Jackson County Sheriff Mike Ezell told news outlets the truck is on the shoulder in the westbound lane near the Gautier Vancleave exit. The confrontation began around 9 a.m.

Ezell says the truck driver is armed with a machete. Ezell said there was some kind of road rage incident involving another truck driver. Marcia Hill with the sheriff's office said the driver had been operating the rig recklessly on I-10 in Alabama and deputies were able to stop the vehicle in Mississippi.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Master Sgt. Chase Elkins said the road is closed between Highway 57 and Gautier-Vancleave Road.

No injuries have been reported.
